Very useful as the lead character in this film is female and is played by Uma Thurman. Her character is a very strong female character and is fuelled by a gender specific drive; the apparent loss of her unborn child. This motive cannot be given to a male character and still have the same impact on the character, meaning that Uma Thurman's character is a defined female lead and cannot be compared to any male counterpart.
